Meet The Missy Designer
Wanna find out how we get into creating our unique designs here at Missy Empire? We’ve caught up with our head of design Hannah, to find out what the daily tasks of a designer are. Keep reading whilst we spill all the tea on how to get into a designing career.
How Did You Get Into Design?
After completing my A-Level in textiles at college, I then went on to further my education on design at the University Of Huddersfield. At university I studied textile practice specialising in commercial designing, my favourite part of the course was definitely the projects which consisted of designing clothing for brands. Once I had finished uni I did a placement year as a knitwear design assistant, which started my career path as a designer.
What Is Your Favourite Part Of Your Job?
My favourite part of my job has got to be looking for new trends emerging on the catwalks, celebrity styles and WGSN. I then use my research and knowledge to turn these styles into exciting new designs. I also love seeing people wearing my designs!
Your Favourite Style You’ve Designed & Why?
I have recently designed the Valentines campaign which is my favourite collection to design so far, we can’t wait for you to shop it.
What Would You Say Your Dress Style Is Like?
I would say my dress style varies as I love to keep up with the latest trends. During the day I like to dress casual and comfy, but on a night out I like to go extra glam.
Why Did You Choose Designing As A Career?
From a young age I have always been very creative, so I just followed what I enjoyed doing throughout school and college which led me to become a fashion designer.
What Tips Would You Give To Someone Who Would Like To Get Into Fashion Designing?
My main tips for getting into fashion designing would be to get as much experience as possible! Applying for placements is always a good start. Also, trying out different companies and areas of design when you’re starting out is a great way to figure out which area of design best suits you.
